Project overview
Naaldwijk Greenhouse Pilot
This installation is our first operational pilot, located inside the greenhouse facilities of World Horti Center in Naaldwijk. The system is built within an existing greenhouse owned and operated by Vertify, who manages the full cultivation process — from seeding to harvesting.
In this pilot, multiple lettuce varieties are tested using seeds from leading breeders such as Enza Zaden and Rijk Zwaan. The goal is straightforward: validate performance under real greenhouse conditions.
Within this 20 m² footprint, 160 m² of effective cultivation area is realized through vertical growing. The system enables controlled testing of climate homogeneity, lighting spectrum and intensity, irrigation strategy, crop productivity, and crop health and uniformity.
The result:
- 70–90% lower water usage
- Stable and homogeneous climate conditions
- Applicable crop varieties for vertical greenhouse production
- Optimized lighting spectrum
- Confirmed unit economics under commercial assumptions
The Naaldwijk pilot proves that vertical growing principles can be successfully integrated into greenhouse environments — combining the benefits of natural daylight with high-density automation.
